Danger swim ready to make a splash

ANTICIPATION is rising among the swimming community for tomorrow’s (Saturday, December 4) Jan Juc Surf Lifesaving Club Danger Ocean Swim Series.

More than 1,200 competitors are expected to take to the water at Torquay Front Beach (Cosy Corner) across four separate course lengths.

The Danger 500 (500m) and headline Danger 1000 (1km) will be held in the protected bay area on a triangular course.

The two marathon races, the 2.5km and 5km will start and finish at Cosy Corner, and turnaround at Fisherman’s Beach.

A fun wade event will also be run for kids aged 6-12 years old.

Jan Juc SLSC president Brett Thompson said it was sure to be a big day.

“We are proud to keep up the tradition of the Danger Ocean Swim Series.

“It’s a great display of our members’ teamwork and commitment to community.

“Each year, over 150 volunteers come together to make this event possible, managing everything from setup to water safety.

“We can’t wait.”Since its inception in 1999, the Danger Ocean Swim Series has raised over $500,000 to support the Jan Juc SLSC’s operations and community programs.”

The 2.5km and 5km swims will commence from 9.00am, followed by the 500m swim from 11am and the marquee 1000m swim at11.30am.
