Denis Walter Carols by the Bay cancelled

December 2, 2023 BY

Carols By The Bay has been popular with the community since it was first run in 1997.

THIS year’s edition of Denis Walter Carols by the Bay, which was to be held tonight (Saturday, December 2), has been cancelled due to unfavourable weather conditions.

In an announcement released earlier today, the City of Greater Geelong said the decision was made “in the interest of public safety and to protect our valued community members”.

“The safety of our community and staff is our top priority, and these measures have been taken to minimise any potential risks associated with the adverse weather conditions.

“We apologise for the disappointment this cancellation may cause and appreciate your understanding in helping us ensure the safety of all.”

In a statement on his Facebook page, Walter said the venue for the event, Easterm Beach Reserve, was considered unsafe due to “adverse weather conditions and water accumulation”.

“We apologise for any disappointment, as we were all eagerly anticipating the event.

“We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to each of you – would be attendees and supporters of our Carols, major partners, sponsors, and the
incredibly talented artists who were ready to enchant us with their Christmas performances.

“A heartfelt thank you also goes to the dedicated event crew and management who worked tirelessly to bring this event to life.

“While we share in the disappointment, the safety of everyone involved is our utmost priority, leading us to this difficult decision.

“While tonight’s Carols By The Bay will not be going ahead, please know that there will be a next time and we eagerly anticipate the
opportunity to create a magical experience for you in the future.

“Thank you folks for your understanding comments and unwavering support! Have a safe and warm evening inside with your loved ones.”
