Detox Your Home to return to Torquay

SURF COAST residents are encouraged to clear out their sheds, cupboards and garages when the region’s only chemical disposal event comes to Torquay next month.

The highly popular Detox Your Home collection event will be held at the Torquay Works Depot, in Messmate Rd, on October 4 between 9am and 12 noon.

The event will provide a safe and simple way for households to dispose of unwanted flammable chemicals, such as turpentine, kerosene, mower fuel and other household cleaning products and garden chemicals, at no cost.

Expert chemists will be on hand to share information about how to safely these products.

Chemicals should never be poured down the drain or put in kerbside bins where they can harm people, pets or the environment.

Surf Coast Shire councillor Rebecca Bourke encouraged residents to book quickly to secure their spot.

“This program is so popular and it’s fantastic to see it returning to Torquay for another collection.

“Events like this show the community’s commitment to protecting our environment and doing the right thing with their hazardous waste.

“If you have been holding onto unwanted chemicals, now is the time to act.”

This will be the only Detox Your Home event in the Surf Coast region in 2025.
