Developer splashes cash for local groups
A HOST of fledgling Armstrong Creek-region organisations will share in a community cash kitty next month when Villawood Properties dishes out this year’s round of Armstrong Community Grants.
The developer is giving away $10,000 worth of grants, in installments of $500 or $1000, to local groups in the coming weeks.
The cash boosts are for clubs, services or organisations that have been up and running for at least a year in the Geelong region’s growth areas: Armstrong Creek, Mount Duneed, Marshall, Charlemont, Torquay, Grovedale or Waurn Ponds.
Villawood said it wanted to hear from all groups – big or small – to ensure its cash went to the most worthy causes.
“We want people to tell us about their group and why just it’s important to the Armstrong community,” a spokesperson for Villawood said.
“A lot of groups are out doing good things, sometimes unusual things, for the community and we want to give them a helping hand. So if you’re a chess club or an underwater Rubik’s Cube club, or maybe something more mainstream – a sports group, a book club, whatever – let us know and we’ll see if we can help.
“We have a total $10,000 in grants up for grabs for eligible groups. We’re after applications from groups including cultural, recreation, community, not-for-profit, sporting clubs and schools.”
Applications opened on Monday (June 13) and close on June 27.
Villawood will announce the successful nominees on July 18.
