Donations doubled for hospital appeal
BARWON Health Foundation will match donations to its Christmas fundraiser for 36 hours this week to allow at-risk pregnant mothers to receive vital care close to home.
The foundation’s Wish Upon A Star Christmas Appeal has set a $250,000 target this year, which would provide a fetal ultrasound monitor for the Geelong hospital.
Funds raised from 7am Friday until 7pm Saturday will be doubled by campaign partners that have agreed to support the donation drive.
Barwon Health Foundation executive director Zoe Waters said the appeal was an opportunity for the community to help local mothers have their Christmas wish come true.
“I can think of nothing more heart-warming than giving the gift of good health this Christmas and this money will ensure our tiniest patients get the care they need closer to home,” she said.
The final hour of the Matched Giving campaign will be streamed live with tally updates through the Geelong Connected Communities Gala Christmas Concert from 6pm Saturday, online at the Foundation’s Facebook page and on community television station Channel 31.
Geelong Village Cinemas is also screening the concert at a ticketed viewing that supports the cause.
The concert will include a host of music acts plus performances from local dance groups, cheerleaders, choirs, pipe bands and a visit from Mr and Mrs Claus.
People can donate online at the Barwon Health Foundation website.
