Double dissolution election on July 2 looms
THE likelihood of a double dissolution election is higher than ever, after Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull recalled both houses of Parliament to sit from April 18. Monday’s announcement is the Coalition’s latest attempt to pass legislation that restores the Australian Building and Competition Commission. Mr Turnbull said if the bills were not passed, a double dissolution would be held on July 2.
The budget has also been brought forward a week, to May 3, to make this possible.
