Anglesea residents woke to surreal scenes this morning when an apparent dragon egg was found washed up at the town’s main beach.

A four-by-two-metre scaly object wowed onlookers this morning at the Surf Coast town, with speculation rife regarding its origin and contents.

The egg was reportedly discovered covered in moss and with a faint glow coming from inside.

Slight movement was also detected inside, leading to fears it could hatch and release a fearsome fire-breathing creature.

Celebrity animal expert Matt Wright – who specialises in reptile eggs – has flown from Darwin to inspect the beach debris and provide further information.

Thursday’s discovery appeared to have similarities with eggs kept by the Targaryen family in the world-famous Game of Thrones TV series – a prequel of which is due to air on the weekend.

More to come.
