CELEBRITY chef Simon Toohey and events specialist Kieran Blood aim to bring central Geelong to life as the new operators of the Geelong City Market.

The new Saturday market in the Market Square Mall will launch next month and will showcase the best of Geelong and the Barwon region.

From seasonal produce and artisan products to street food, local makers live entertainment and cultural experiences, the market will ooze regional creativity and genuine connection.

Toohey said the Geelong City Market would shine a light on the extraordinary people who make the city hum.

“At a time when costs are rising and the world feels a little heavier, places like this become havens – where you can discover food and creations that are affordable, different, and brimming with excitement.

“It’s more than just a market. It’s about giving our makers, bakers, growers and creators a voice – a platform to say to Geelong, the Bellarine and beyond: we’re here, we’re proud, and we can’t wait to share what we do!”

Blood is equally excited.

“It’s a safe space, an inclusive space, and above all, an extension of what we love about the region – from us, from every stallholder, and from the community we’re building together,” he said.

“We can’t wait to welcome you, to feed you, to surprise you, and to remind you just how special Geelong truly is.”

Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said the new market would build on Geelong’s reputation as a vibrant and welcoming destination.

“This initiative will breathe new life into Market Square Mall and provide a space where locals and visitors can come together, support local traders and celebrate what makes our region unique.”

The market will officially launch on October 25, with further details to be shared in the coming weeks.
