A POWER outage as a result of a car crash in Mount Duneed caused a false alarm five kilometres away at a Torquay cafe on Thursday last week.

Following the incident at the corner of Blackgate Road and Surf Coast Highway, the Torquay Fire Brigade received a fire alarm from the Two Sugars cafe on The Esplanade between 3.15pm and 3.30pm.

However, there was no fire or structural damage at the cafe.

Firefighter Murray Middleton said the situation was under control and there was no need for concern.

“A car went into a pole on the highway and upon arrival, we got an alarm call and we responded with two of our other appliances to come here.

“But it was all investigatory.”
