ENTRIES are now open for the 20th edition of Australia’s premier mountain biking event.

The Otway Odyssey mountain biking marathon and Great Otway Gravel Grind will be held between February 28 and March 1, with thousands of riders of all levels expected to participate in the milestone event.

Set against the stunning backdrop of Forrest and the Otway Ranges, competitors will race the renowned mountain bike trails and gravel tracks that have become synonymous with the area.

Next year’s event, organised by Rapid Ascent, will feature a new format, redesigned courses and brand-new race options. The Odyssey’s 100km race has been reworked to a single track with better flow and less derailleur-eating 4WD slog, creating the ultimate test for riders chasing endurance glory. A new 75km race, pitched as the ideal stepping stone between the marquee 50km and 100km disciplines, has also been added.

Event director Sam Maffett said it would be the most exciting yet.

“We are beyond excited to be celebrating 20 years of the Odyssey and 10 years of the Gravel Grind, so we’re pulling out all stops to make this anniversary edition the biggest, raddest, most memorable one to date.

“The Otway Odyssey has earned its reputation by delivering tough courses that are renowned for their sweet flowing single track, lung-busting climbs and the kind of terrain that really tests riders while leaving them grinning.”

The most successful Odyssey rider to date, Peta Mullens echoed his excitement.

The Gravel Grind events will celebrate its 10th edition with a world-class new 106km course.

“It’s not at all surprising to me that we’re celebrating the 20th edition. I still remember the pre- and post-race emotions of my first Odyssey in 2010.

“Even after 12 finishes and 12 podiums, the challenge of this event is still euphoric.”

Complimenting the Odyssey events will be the Gravel Grind series, which will feature five race lengths, including the new 106km course, 49km main race, 30km, 10km and little kids Grom event.

Riders are promised sweeping views, challenging climbs, and the event’s trademark “time-out zones” where riders can enjoy coffee breaks and rendezvous with mates without the clock ticking.

New presenting partner Shimano is thrilled to be joining the Otway Odyssey in 2026.

“The Odyssey has become a cornerstone of the Australian mountain bike calendar — home to countless epic battles between elite riders, and just as importantly, a place where everyday riders challenge themselves and celebrate the pure joy of riding,” Shimano marketing manager Toby Shingleton said.

“We’re proud to support an event that embodies the true spirit of mountain biking.”
