THE Surf Coast and Great Ocean Road region is expanding its electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, with the first of four new public charging stations now operational.

The $470,000 project will install dual-port chargers in Lorne, Aireys Inlet, Anglesea, and Winchelsea by June 2025.

The Lorne station has replaced a broken charger and is now operational at the Lorne Visitor Information Centre in Mountjoy Parade.

Work has also begun on the Aireys Inlet charging station, which will be located at the Community Centre in the Great Ocean Road.

Locations for the Anglesea and Winchelsea stations are still being finalised.

These installations will be the first public charging stations in Aireys Inlet, Anglesea, and Winchelsea, and will integrate into the Chargefox network.

The Surf Coast Shire, which is contributing funding alongside the Victorian government, said the project would expand EV infrastructure in the region.

“These EV charging stations will be part of the Chargefox network, the largest EV charging network in Australia,” the shire stated.

The Victorian government is providing $343,000 through its Destination Charging Across Victoria Program, which is delivering 116 new charging stations in regional and tourist areas to support the state’s push for increased EV adoption.

The Surf Coast Shire is covering the remaining cost.
