ACTIVITIES such as nature walks to lawn-bowls are just some of the fun things Surf Coast residents can do over the age of 55.

The Surf Coast Shire Council will host an array of events in October as part of Positive Ageing Month, with fun activities spread across the coast and hinterland to celebrate the region’s older residents.

“There is a wonderful selection of events, with majority organised by community groups and organisations to link in with this year’s Victoria Seniors Festival theme to ‘Learn, Love, Live’ your best life,” Surf Coast Shire councillor Gary Allen said.

Cr Allen listed several events residents would be interested in taking part in. The list includes:

  • Seniors Community Luncheon at Anglesea Bowls Club (October 5)
  • Wiser Walker, Wiser Traveller course at Council office, Torquay (October 6, 20 and 27)
  • A short Surf Coast Walk in Jan Juc, guided by Angair (October 9)
  • Torquay Community Luncheon at Torquay Seniors Citizens Centre (October 10)
  • Come-and-try event at Lorne Bowls Club (October 11)
  • Movie, music and afternoon tea at Deans Marsh Cottage (October 12)
  • Lorne village kinder play time at St Cuthbert’s Hall (October 13)
  • Various women’s sharing shed and men’s shed open days (October 17-19)
  • Hinterland Movie Club event at Winchelsea Shire Hall (October 23)

“I attended numerous events last year and was delighted to see the social connections made and the knowledge shared,” Cr Allen said.

“I’m sure that the 2023 celebrations will be just as special, bringing together the community for plenty of fun.

“Positive Ageing Month aligns with the Council’s work towards an age-friendly community, where ageing people are valued, respected, and actively supported to participate in their community.”

Positive Ageing Month is part of the Victorian Seniors Festival — a Victorian Government initiative.
