ONE of the regular members of Torquay’s parkrun course has celebrated her 50th birthday by stepping out with friends and family from across Australia.

Caitlin Doble had about 20 extra people, including visitors from Adelaide and Darwin, running with her on Saturday morning along the five-kilometre course, which starts and finishes at Fishermans Beach.

Caitlin’s sister-in-law Rebecca Doble (who lives in the Adelaide Hills) said the birthday girl was surprised on the day when everyone turned up in “Team Caitlin” T-shirts and carrying an “I am Caitlin” T-shirt for her.

“She invited everyone to the day, she said ‘everyone must come to parkrun’, but she didn’t know we were going to take part in the T-shirts. She took it very graciously.”

Mrs Doble said it was a very joyous occasion, and even better because everyone finished.

“We had quite a few people running for the first time, and I think a couple of people may have set personal bests.”

She said parkrun – a free, weekly timed run with courses across the world – was a great way to exercise.

“It’s such a supportive community and people cheer you to get across the finish line.

“Plus the scenery at Torquay is just magnificent.”
