Fashion fundraiser supports new Anglesea mural
MORE than 140 people helped to raise more than $4,000 for an interactive mural in Anglesea at an inaugural fashion fundraiser.
A full house attended the Anglesea Opshop Fashion Parade at Anglesea Memorial Hall, with all funds going toward producing a coastal mural which will appear at the front of the Seaside Seconds Opshop.
The painted mural is being produced by local artist Minerva Lamorgese and will depict a summer’s day at Point Roadknight Beach with birds flying, trees swaying and the waves rolling.
It will feature a QR code which will have details from ANGAIR about all the different flora, fauna and landscapes in the design.
Seaside Seconds Opshop’s Bec Goodman said the fashion event provided a huge boost toward delivering the mural.
“It went so well! Everyone laughed and just had the best time.
“Ann-Maree Biggar who MC’d the event was just incredible; the fashion, the fundraising and the fun all just went off without a hitch.
“The community was so generous as always. We had over 40 local businesses from Anglesea alone supply items for our raffle.”
Ms Goodman said the mural will help to bring more tourism to Anglesea, injecting much-needed funds into the local economy.
“We want it to be an attraction, like how people travel to see the silos in regional Victoria.
“Business has been hit really hard in Anglesea over winter, and we think a bright and colourful mural is a great way to lighten up the town.”
Work will begin on the mural next week, with the aim of having the project completely finished before the end of the month.
The project has received a grant from the Surf Coast Shire council and additional funding from the Seaside Seconds Opshop.
