THE Give Where You Live Foundation’s 2022 Feed Geelong Appeal has raised more than $65,000 to help fight hunger and food insecurity in the Geelong community.

Beginning on Monday October 10 and culminating on World Food Day on Sunday October 16, the week-long appeal aimed to support the 53,000 families and individuals in the Geelong region who have needed food assistance in the past 12 months.

The theme of this year’s World Food Day is ‘Leave NO ONE behind’ and raised awareness that although the population has made progress towards building a better world, too many people have been left behind.

With the demand for food relief being on the rise, Give Where You Live Foundation CEO Bill Mithen said he was very grateful for the community generosity during the campaign.

“Thank you to everyone who supported the 2022 Feed Geelong Appeal, we’re thrilled to share it raised over $65,000 to support food relief agencies across the region,” he said.

“The Feed Geelong Appeal provides the opportunity for everyone to help make sure nobody in our community goes hungry.

“The funds raised will stay in the G21 region to support families and individuals who need help to put food on the table for their family.”

Mithen said the immense support from individuals and local businesses during the appeal will play a vital role in helping address food security within the region.

Geelong local Elena donated her tooth fairy money to the Feed Geelong Appeal.

“We can’t undertake the work we do without the generous support of our community,” Mithen said.

“This includes more than 40 local businesses and their employees who participated in Brown Paper Bag Day and donated their lunch or coffee money on Friday 14 October and also included 8-year-old Elena who instead of using her Tooth Fairy money to buy a toy or something for herself, donated it to the Feed Geelong Appeal.”

Mithen also thanked local appeal partners including Goop Digital for donating $5 for every social media post using the #FeedGeelong hashtag as well as match giving partners The Mulberry Group, Viva Energy and The Gordon.
