KARDINIA Park will be a hive of activity tonight (Friday, March 7) as the Festival of Sport returns.

Kicking off the long weekend, the free festival will host a range of sporting activities in GMHBA Stadium, Barwon Regional Cricket Centre, the Joel Selwood Stand and in Djilang Plaza.

Attendees will have the chance to participate in and try a number of different sports including netball, golf, martial arts, dance, rugby, AFL and more with 32 activations taking place.

All ages and abilities are encouraged to attend the festival with something on offer for everyone.

Kardina Park chief executive officer Gerard Griffin said the event was a fantastic opportunity for people to get out on the same oval as some of the sporting greats.

“Our region boasts a rich and vibrant sporting sector.

“From the traditional, to the non-traditional and the obscure – we love celebrating them all right here at the heart of sport in Geelong.”

The festival, sponsored by Deakin University, is an opportunity for people of all ages to also celebrate active recreation and healthy lifestyles.

Now in its fifth year, the event has proved popular in previous installments with thousands of people attending and more than 70 per cent of patrons trying a new activity.

The Geelong Sports Museum will also open for the festival with free entry for patrons to explore the collection of sporting stories from the region, including the new Spotlight on Golf exhibit.

Food trucks and entertainment will be on site throughout the event, which will run from 5pm until 8pm.
