THE Torquay Library will welcome families and shoppers this weekend for its annual Arts and Craft Market and Family Fun Day.

Now in its fourth year, the event will take place tomorrow (Saturday, December 6) between 10am and 1pm, with stalls, activities and family-friendly entertainment planned across the precinct.

The market will feature handmade goods from local creatives and artisans, offering visitors the opportunity to buy unique gifts and stocking fillers ahead of Christmas.

Inside the library, families are also invited to take part in festive craft activities, Lego and board games.

The fun continues next door at the Torquay Visitor Information Centre, where families can take free photos with the Surf Coast’s own “surfy Santa” and enjoy face painting and more craft sessions.

Children can also post their letters to the North Pole at the centre. Those sent before December 18 will receive a reply before Christmas.

Surf Coast Shire councillor and Geelong Regional Library Corporation chair, Liz Pattison, said the family fun day is a chance to meet new friends, support local creatives and enjoy some sustainable shopping.

“Our libraries are all about community connection, and the Torquay family fun day is the perfect excuse to pop along to the library,” she said.

“We usually welcome hundreds of people through the doors for the family fun day, and we can’t wait to do the same this year.”

She encouraged everyone – young and old – to come along to the Torquay Library this Saturday.

“Grab a coffee from nearby local cafes and pick up a Christmas gift from talented local creatives and artisans,” Pattison said.

“Everyone is welcome, and anyone who signs up as a new library member on the day will receive a free library tote bag.”
