Field set for May 21 poll

THE field has been locked in for the May 21 federal election, with early voting opening on Monday, May 9.

In the Geelong region, there are 26 candidates across the three electorates of Corangamite (nine), Corio (nine) and Wannon (eight).

They are listed here in the order they appear on the ballot paper.

CORANGAMITE

  • Stephen Juhasz – Australian Federation Party
  • Alex Marshall – The Australian Greens – Victoria
  • Libby Coker (incumbent) – Australian Labor Party (Victorian Branch)
  • Meg Watkins – Animal Justice Party
  • Stephanie Asher – Liberal Party of Australia (Victorian Division)
  • Paul Barker – Liberal Democratic Party
  • Luke Sorensen – Pauline Hanson’s One Nation
  • Daniel William Abou-zeid – United Australia Party
  • Jean-Marie D’Argent – Derryn Hinch’s Justice Party.

  • Sue Bull – Socialist Alliance
  • Jessica Taylor – Australian Federation Party
  • Manish Patel – Liberal Party of Australia (Victorian Division)
  • Simon Northeast – The Australian Greens – Victoria
  • Robert Jones – Pauline Hanson’s One Nation

  • Gilbert Wilson – Australian Labor Party (Victorian Branch).

According to the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) website, you are eligible to vote early (from May 9 onwards), either in person or by post, if on election day you:

  • Are outside the electorate where you are enrolled to vote
  • Are more than 8km from a polling place
  • Are travelling
  • Are unable to leave your workplace to vote
  • Are seriously ill, infirm or due to give birth shortly (or caring for someone who is)
  • Are a patient in hospital and can’t vote at the hospital
  • Have religious beliefs that prevent you from attending a polling place
  • Are in prison serving a sentence of less than three years or otherwise detained
  • Are a silent elector, or
  • Have a reasonable fear for your safety.
  • Applications for postal votes close on May 18.
