Footy tipping competition supports locals and community groups
THE fifth annual AFL tipping competition run by the Community Bank Surf Coast has provided funds to three community groups thanks to the tipping efforts of some talented locals.
The Anglesea, Lorne and Winchelsea Community Bank branches not only rewarded the top three ‘tippers’ from this year with cash prizes for their efforts, but also provided a pool of $2500, which was divided up to be given to the community groups of the three winner’s choices.
Carole Blake was the winner of the first prize award and elected to donate the $1250 windfall to the Wurdale Fire Brigade, second place-getter Anthony Alsop elected to support the Winchelsea RSL, who received $750, while third place winner Peter Hughes gifted his $500 win to the Aireys Inlet Fire Brigade.
The Community Bank Surf Coast said they were humbled to have provided a fun and inclusive activity for the local community.
“The competition has been running for the last few years and has been a great way to support community groups,” Community Bank Surf Coast marketing co-ordinator Kelly Turner said.
“The beautiful thing about the winners this year was that they picked underdog organisations, no one really would have thought of supporting Wurdale Fire Brigade, and not too many thinks of supporting the guys in Aireys (Aireys Inlet Fire Brigade).
“It was really good that these winners thought outside the box this year, where some of us don’t.”
Community Bank Surf Coast branch manager Daniel Norris said that the community support program will continue in 2023, with plans for the competition to become bigger and better, thanks to a partnership with the Surf Coast Times.
“Next year we are super excited to partner with the Surf Coast Times to expand our competition from the 50 odd we had this year to hopefully 500-1000,” Norris said.
“People will once again pick their non for profit and then if they win, the organisation wins.
“We can’t wait and thank the Surf Coast Times for collaborating on this exciting project for 2023.”
The Community Bank Surf Coast invite any interested ‘footy tippers’ to get involved next season and battle it out for personal success while also supporting their favourite charity group.
Those interested are told to keep an eye out for announcements to come in the near future.
