Forum to address climate change challenges
THE Great Ocean Road Coast Committee (GORCC) will be holding a free community forum at Lorne next month to teach people how they can adapt to climate change.
Caring For Coast will feature special guests Jason Mifsud, Dr Anthony Boxshall and Ali Wastie.
The forum will discuss the challenges such as the increasing demands of visitation, the effects of climate change, increased community expectations and protecting cultural heritage.
GORCC chair Ken Northwood said the forum presented a great opportunity for people to learn more about these challenges.
“It is an important step in encouraging and building community responsibility and action.
“We are thrilled to have Jason, Anthony and Ali join us to share their knowledge and experience and we’re looking forward to some robust community conversations”.
The special guests come from a diverse range of backgrounds.
A marine biologist by trade, Dr Boxshall is chair of the Victorian Marine and Coastal Council. He is also principal and founder of Science into Action Pty Ltd, which works with governments and businesses to maximise the influence of science in their decisions.
Mr Mifsud is a proud member of the Eastern Maar. He has a long background in Aboriginal affairs and before his days at Mifsud Consulting and Advisory was an AFL player, coach and executive.
Ali Wastie is chief executive officer of Bass Coast Shire. She has also been a board director of various not-for-for profit, community, tourism and health sectors.
The event will begin at Mantra Lorne on March 13 from noon with a light lunch.
Each of the guest speakers will give presentations and finish up with a panel discussion.
Those interested in attending must RSVP by March 6, with places limited. People can book their place at the event at eventbrite.com.au.
