Free breakfast serves up for success
MORE Victorian students will have the opportunity to start the day with full stomachs as the Allan Labor Government announces free breakfasts in schools.
For the first time the School Breakfast Clubs Program will be available to every government school across the state.
There are already 1,000 schools participating in the program, with the expansion set to support an additional 200,000 students.
The program will begin rolling out at the start of next year with 150 schools being invited before the remaining schools are added in June 2025.
“School Breakfast Clubs make a huge difference to students whose families need a little extra support to give their children nutritious meals that power their school day,” Minister for Education Ben Carroll said.
The existing School Breakfast Club Program has already made a difference in Victorian schools, delivering more than 40 million meals for students since 2016.
Ocean Grove’s Surf Side Primary School already participates in the program, preparing students for a full day of learning.
Healthy Eating Guidelines are met during the program with multiple options for students including cereals, fresh fruit, soups and rice dishes.
On top of healthy breakfasts, the existing program also provides students with lunches, snacks and take-home food packs.
