GEELONG’S Children’s Week is returning to the region with more than 20 free events, starting from tomorrow (Saturday, October 11).
The national week is an opportunity to celebrate the talents, achievements, rights and wellbeing of children.
As part of the events on offer until October 20, children can attend the Anakie Playgroup Party, Kids Disco Party, Wombat’s Walk, Big Rights for Little People, Stay and Play and Kids Yoga and more.
Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said Children’s Week was a wonderful opportunity to bring families together.
“This year’s Geelong Children’s Week is set to be full of fun and wonder for the entire family.
“These events support the health, development and wellbeing of our youngest residents and also shine a light on the importance of children’s rights.”
Many of the events on offer are supported by the City of Greater Geelong and funded through its $20,000 Children’s Weeks Grants Program.
The council’s women and community life portfolio chair Cr Melissa Cadwell said the activities offered something for everyone.
“From interactive cultural experiences to outdoor play and creative workshops, these events are designed to capture children’s imaginations.
“They also create opportunities for families to connect with local services and support networks in a fun and welcoming environment.”
This year’s festival theme, “Everyone should know about children’s rights”, was taken from the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
