From hosting radio shows to officiating at weddings

MORE than 10 years after stepping into the classroom, K Rock’s Jess Qazi has returned to the books, forging a career path in the world of weddings as a marriage celebrant.

The radio host is well known for her bubbly personality on the Tim and Jess Show and is now pursuing a long-held dream of filling her weekends with weddings.

“I’ve MC’d a few weddings already, and sharing that amazing vibe is such a rush,” Ms Qazi said.

“There is something so powerful in sharing these huge moments with people.

“I just want to give them an amazing customised wedding day that is as unique and special as their love for one another.”

Ms Qazi will use her presenting skills to help couples celebrate their big day, and has plans to do radio on weekdays and weddings all weekend.

“The mic is basically the same; just one career I have a co-host, while in the other I will be leading the ceremony solo,” she said.

After several years of contemplating the world of weddings, and celebrating her own marriage, Ms Qazi made the decision to study celebrancy at The Gordon and will complete the course in November.

The course is the nationally accredited qualification to work as an authorised marriage or funeral celebrant, with flexible and blended delivery appealing to Ms Qazi.

“I did my research, and The Gordon had the best reputation for getting people industry ready, plus it fit so easily into my current work schedule because the classes are at night and weekends,” she said.

“I wanted hands-on learning and the best part of studying at The Gordon is that I never feel like any of the work I’m doing is not going to be used in my future career as a celebrant.”

Ms Qazi said the teaching team was also accessible and was keen to see every student succeed.

“They go above and beyond to provide as much feedback as possible,” she said. “As well as written feedback, the trainers record videos of themselves talking through my work.”

Her teacher, Nicole Penning, said Ms Qazi was a person who “oozed character and charm, personality and vibrancy.”

“She is enjoying moulding this into what she can envision as a successful celebrancy career,” she said.

“She is no doubt enjoying the camaraderie with her fellow students, the bonding, and creating lasting friendships with her classmates that will form her network as she begins her celebrancy business journey.”

Ms Qazi plans to start taking bookings from March next year.
