Torquay Coast now has more than 220 players spanning under-8s to under-19s.

TORQUAY Coast Basketball Club is quickly becoming one of the region’s top basketball clubs, with more than 220 players now dribbling and shooting hoops.

Club president Peter Withers said the club continues to build and is in a fantastic position heading into its eighth season.

“We’ve just closed year seven, and we are progressing and building fantastically as a club,” he said. “We are really starting to see our program reaping the benefits for our players.”

Torquay Coast now has a boys and girls academy program and 29 teams in a total, with a number of those playing representative grade in Geelong.

“We’ve got around that 220 player mark, which is just terrific. That’s 23 teams in Surf Coast Basketball Association and the six in Geelong,” Withers said.

“We know we are doing great things in our community.”

The club recently held a coaches clinic that involved upskilling 12 members into fully accredited coaches.

“It’s just going strong across the board,” Withers said. “We can’t wait to see where it goes from here.”

Torquay Coast celebrated its annual presentation last week, crowning its champions and recognising its volunteers.

Awards were presented to players from the club’s under-8 teams through to its under-19 girls’ team.
