MEN’S sheds across Victoria will share in more than $879,000 in grants to upgrade facilities, support community projects, and expand programs under the state’s 2024-25 Men’s Shed Funding Program.
In regional Victoria, the Surf Coast Shire’s Moriac Community Shed, operated by the Moriac Community Network, will receive $48,221 to upgrade its facilities.
In Bendigo, the Bendigo and District Aboriginal Cooperative has been granted $22,033 to introduce a laser engraver, allowing members to blend traditional artwork with modern technology. Mensheds Bendigo will receive $9,866 for equipment upgrades.
Minister for Carers and Volunteers Ros Spence said men’s sheds were more than just places to tinker.
“Men’s sheds are essential community spaces where men can forge friendships, share experiences and support each other in a safe and welcoming environment, as well as working on meaningful projects,” Spence said.
“These grants will make an incredible difference to communities across Victoria, providing men with the spaces and opportunities they need to develop new skills, enhance their wellbeing and strengthen social connection.”
Around the state other recipients include Aberfeldie Men’s Shed, which will install a shade sail and upgrade machinery, while Beaufort Men’s Shed will rebuild after its previous site was destroyed by floods.
Clunes Men’s Shed will build a Young Men’s Shed alongside its existing facility, and Monash Men’s Shed will expand its site with a new outdoor area and extra storage.
Member for Niddrie Ben Carroll said the funding would strengthen community connections.
“By investing in men’s sheds, we are supporting spaces that create a sense of belonging, contributing to the health and wellbeing of Victorian communities,” he said.
