GOLDEN Plains Shire council is recognising the International Day of People with Disability, or IDPwD, at Bannockburn Cultural Centre.

IDPwD is held annually on 3 December as a United Nations Day of Observance and is focused on raising awareness, understanding and promoting acceptance towards the 5.5 million Australians who live with a disability.

Kicking Goals Geelong Disability Services will be at Bannockburn Cultural Centre hosting a dance and exercise class as well as a cookie decorating session.

Golden Plains Shire CEO Shane Walden said the Shire is striving to enhance accessibility.

“In August 2024, Council adopted the Golden Plains Shire disability action plan strategic framework 2025 to 2029 which underscores our commitment to creating an inclusive community where everyone has access to the council support and services they need,” he said.

“We’re excited to celebrate International Day of People with Disability, and we encourage residents and visitors to register for our fun and inclusive event at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre.”

The event will be on from 11.30am to 1.30pm and includes lunch. To register visit goldenplains.vic.gov.au/events.
