RHYS Holden has been announced as the new chief executive officer and creative director of the Geelong Arts Centre, and is set to join the team in July.

Mr Holden brings his extensive experience in the creative sector to the position as he steers the centre into its next chapter.

His previous experience includes working for large-scale commercial productions, major performing arts companies and in the small to medium arts sector.

“I believe strongly in the powerful impact of diverse and bold arts and cultural experiences on communities,” Mr Holden said.

“I’m honoured to be working with the Trust and the incredible team at Geelong Arts Centre to deliver on the ambition and potential of the world-class new facilities built on the lands and storytelling traditions of the Wadawurrung People.”

Mr Holden holds a Masters of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts and Psychology.

With a passion for fostering a culture of creativity and collaboration, the new CEO will ensure the Geelong Arts Centre remains at the forefront of industry trends and customers experiences.

Mr Holden is known for his visionary approach and skills in venue management and programming, and the Geelong Arts Centre Trust says it is confident in his ability.

Trust chair Lesley Alway said the trust was thrilled to welcome Mr Holden.

“Rhys has a remarkable ability to blend creativity, community focus and commercial acumen with strategic insight, which makes him the perfect fit for leading us into the next stage.”

Mr Holden takes over from former chief executive and creative director Joel McGuinness, who resigned from the position in April for a role with State Library Victoria.
