Geelong Design Week to inspire city in 2020

GEELONG will host its first ever Design Week in March – a 10-day community celebration of forward-thinking and the effects it has on people’s daily lives.

Locked in for March 19-29, Geelong Design Week 2020 will feature workshops, talks, tours and exhibitions that explore innovation, challenge the norm and showcase the region’s growing list of achievements in the design space.

To get the program off the ground, the City of Greater Geelong (COGG) is inviting applications from organisations, community groups and individuals to participate as event hosts.

Geelong mayor Bruce Harwood said the huge success Geelong-based events experienced at this year’s Melbourne Design Week should make for an exciting inaugural Geelong Design Week.

He also noted Geelong’s global title as a UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) City of Design.

“As Australia’s only UNESCO City of Design, this will be a great chance to showcase the many clever and creative ideas and people in our city,” Mr Harwood said.

“I expect the week will attract visitors from around Victoria and Australia, as well as international guests from our fellow Cities of Design.”

The COGG held two free information sessions earlier this week to support people interested in learning more about hosting a Geelong Design Week event.
