THOUSANDS of tonnes of dirt, massive pyrotechnics and the country’s best riders will descend on GMHBA Stadium this November as it transforms into the largest supercross track in Australian history.

Australia’s biggest supercross event, the AusX Open, is relocating from Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium to Geelong this year, with more than 35,000 spectators expected to attend.

Expect jumps, wheelies, pyrotechnics and plenty more in Geelong this November.

Organisers expect a sell-out crowd and a major boost for the region’s visitor economy when the event arrives on 7 November.

AusX Open founder Adam Bailey said his team was thrilled to be bringing the event to Geelong.

“The sport has grown dramatically over the years, with more than 200,000 spectators and $18 million being invested into Victoria,” he said.

“This sport is the best in the world and to showcase it in front of a global audience is an amazing opportunity.

“It’s been a multi-year discussion to get this going in Geelong, and we are just overjoyed.”

Australian Motocross Championship leader Jed Beaton has a long history with Geelong, recalling childhood trips to watch racing at the venue from as young as 10 years old.

Now, he will race at the stadium for the first time.

“That feeling of being here on the racetrack come November is going to be incredible,” he said.

“I hope we can stick it to the imports and get a local win here on home soil.”

The country’s biggest supercross event will showcase top riders from across Australia.

His closest rival Kyle Webster said the stadium itself was an amazing backdrop for what will be a significant occasion.

“I enjoy being under the lights, and GMHBA Stadium is going to be a wonderful location to showcase our talents.”

City of Greater Geelong deputy mayor Eddy Kontelj said the event would reinforce the region’s reputation as a motorsport destination.

“Geelong is traditionally a motorsport town,” he said.

Geelong deputy mayor Eddy Kontelj said the AusX would bring huge benefits to the local economy.

“I’m positive our people and those from across the state and country will be flocking to be apart of this extravaganza.”

The AusX Open Geelong will take place at GMHBA Stadium on 7 November.
