Geelong Regional Libraries Corporation continues to grow

October 31, 2019 BY

THE Geelong Regional Library Corporation’s (GRLC) recently released annual report has shown the library service to have enjoyed another year of growth.

GRLC is the library service for the Borough of Queenscliffe, City of Greater Geelong, Golden Plains Shire and Surf Coast Shire.

It has 17 libraries across these regions, with the most recent being opened in the Leopold Community Hub in December 2018.

GRLC chair Cr Ron Nelson said in GRLC’s annual report that he felt the library service’s adaptability was central to its success.

“I believe our ability to be responsive to the views and needs of all our key stakeholders, to be agile in a changing digital, political and social landscape and to operate efficiently in the face of tight fiscal conditions is what sets this organisation apart.”

Late last year, Public Libraries Victoria (PLV) Network named GRLC as the state’s top library service late last year. PLV evaluate library services on 10 different performance indicators.

These indicators include the number of active members a library has, their customer satisfaction, and the turnover in both digital and physical items.

GRLC performed well across the categories. It was shown to have the third highest attendance at library programs per capita, the third highest number of public access devices per capita, and the fifth highest customer satisfaction rating.

GRLC’s annual report shows also membership to have increased by five per cent over the past year, and by 20 per cent over the past five years.
