WITH cattle numbers at Geelong this week matching the previous sale of 380 head, values for young stock were five to 10 cents per kilogram cheaper with the top price realising $2,088.00 or 240.0 cents per kilogram for heifers sold on account of Tucker Bros of Anakie.
Many farmers will be hoping that this week’s thunderstorms will produce an early Autumn break that will need to be followed up by more consistent rains after February’s stormy false start.
Good quality hay is now scarce with local producers retaining what little hay they have left to ensure they have some feed to see them through the rest of autumn and winter.
Cows sold firm selling to $1,536.00 or 240.0 cents per kilogram with all classes of veal improving five to eight cents per kilogram on last sale rates.
