LOCALS and visitors are being invited to immerse themselves in the natural wonders of the region at the Geelong Nature Festival.

The popular community event will return from July 12-27 and offer more than 50 family-friendly activities designed to help people discover nature throughout Geelong.

This year’s theme is Explore and Restore, celebrating the power of connecting with nature and the profound impact it has on mental health, wellbeing, physical vitality and overall happiness.

The festival launches on July 12 with a celebration at the Old Paper Mill in Fyansford, featuring inspirational speakers, wildlife interaction from Wildlife Exposure and Roaming Reptiles, guided walks, community planting and more.

It will culminate on National Tree Day, Sunday July 27 with community planting at numerous locations across Greater Geelong.

Mayor Stretch Kontelj encouraged the community to celebrate the rich biodiversity of the Geelong region.

“Learning about and appreciating the unique biodiversity of our region will help us to shape a sustainable future for our community.

“Geelong’s landscape is breathtaking and diverse – from the Bellarine coastline to volcanic plains and native grasslands – we have a duty to protect our biodiversity for future generations.”

Chair of the environment and circular economy portfolio Elise Wilkinson agreed.

“With over 50 activities throughout the festival, there’s something for everyone,” Cr Wilkinson said.

“You can learn more about nature’s role in wellbeing and get hands-on with conservation activities.

“Come with family and friends and enjoy a day out in the great outdoors.”
