Geelong schools to share in $36 million from budget
SCHOOLS in Torquay and across the Geelong region appear to be among the biggest winners so far from the coming state budget, with more than $36 million announced last week to build new schools or upgrade existing ones.
Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney and Labor candidate for South Barwon Darren Cheeseman made a visit to Torquay College on Friday to announce the $1.9 million grant to upgrade and modernise facilities at the Grossmans Road school.
The budget will commit $180.8 million to build or upgrade schools across Victoria.
The Victorian School Building Authority will now start working with schools to determine the scope of their upgrades and how they can best be delivered.
