October 18, 2018 BY

The Geelong Tech School is the eighth such institution to open under the $128 million Tech School program.

THE doors have opened at the Geelong Tech School, with taster programs to run during this term ahead of a rollout integrated with more than 20 participating schools next year.

The Tech School, located on The Gordon’s Geelong campus, features dynamic spaces for collaboration and design thinking practices, and high-end technologies such as 3D printers, laser etching, virtual reality and robotics.

Students will be encouraged to experiment and design using STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) concepts and approaches to resolve industry-led projects.

The school houses the latest audio visual equipment to support students, teachers and industry engage in critical thinking and problem solving.

Programs are free for students to participate in.

Opening the new facility last week, Minister for Education James Merlino said the state-of-the-art facility was the eighth of 10 Tech Schools to open under Labor’s $128 million Tech School initiative.

“We need students to be ready for the jobs of the future and that’s why we’re investing in Tech Schools so they can get the hands-on learning with technology they need.

“The Geelong Tech School will form an important link between our schools, TAFEs, universities and industry.”

The Gordon chief executive officer Lisa Line said the Geelong Tech School would provide students, teachers and industry with access to leading technology and engaging learning experiences.

“Through the Tech School, The Gordon is making a commitment to staying ahead – especially given the fast-changing environment in which we operate.

“Programs are being developed in conjunction with our partner schools and industry, and will be integrally linked with students’ programs in their home schools.”
