GeelongPort lawyer named among nation’s best
TORQUAY resident and GeelongPort lawyer Stephanie Pickett has been lauded at this year’s Lawyers Weekly Women in Law Awards.
Ms Picket won the General Counsel of the Year Award ahead of nine other contenders from businesses including NOVA Entertainment Group, Who Gives a Crap and The Fred Hollows Foundation.
She was among the 10 highest scoring winners across all categories, meaning she was also a finalist for the Women in Law Excellence Award.
The Lawyers Weekly Women in Law Awards are the national benchmark for legal excellence, recognising outstanding women displaying key leadership qualities and influencing the legal profession in Australia.
The prestigious awards program present an exceptional opportunity for leading women to showcase their achievements, attract more clients and propel their careers as well as giving them the recognition they deserve.
GeelongPort says Ms Pickett winning the national award is recognition of her hard work, commitment and focus over the past few years.
“I am honoured and humbled to be recognised as the General Counsel of the Year at the Women in Law Awards this year,” Ms Pickett said.
As the GeelongPort general counsel and company secretary, Ms Pickett leads GeelongPort’s legal, governance, corporate affairs and sustainability teams.
“It has been an enormous couple of years for GeelongPort and my team has delivered a number of exciting initiatives, including supporting the sale of GeelongPort, managing contracts for the Spirit of Tasmania terminal and implementing a renewable energy power purchase agreement,” she said,
“I couldn’t be prouder of everything the GeelongPort team has achieved.”
Before joining GeelongPort, Ms Pickett spent more than a decade working as a lawyer for the National Australia Bank Group in various roles in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, with a commercial, litigation and regulatory focus.
She is admitted to practice in Australia and New Zealand and has a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Commerce from the Victoria University of Wellington.
Ms Pickett was also recognised on the Legal500 GC Powerlist Australia 2023 list in April this year.
