Geelong’s Christmas night of nights

November 21, 2018 BY

This year’s Christmas tree saw the addition of new lights and decorative features at the base of the tree.

GEELONG’S iconic floating Christmas tree attracted an estimated 15,000 people at Friday November 9’s tree lighting ceremony, a special event for the community.

The 25-metre-high tree is now in its fifth year, lighting up nightly from 8.30pm – midnight until Monday January 7.

Onlookers enjoyed free entertainment and an eyecatching fireworks display, with The Kazoos, The Itchy Feet band, the cast of Medimme’s Aladdin, Geelong’s Best Kid Busker winner Tim Meadows and Piano Bar’s Andy Pobjoy performing on the evening.

The Waterfront tree featured a new decorative element; coloured presents as part of the light show at the base of the tree.

Keeping in tune with this year’s theme, the journey of the Christmas star, Gheringhap Street’s City Hall came alive at 9.30pm in a new light projection show designed by local artist Matt Bonner.

Projections will light up nightly from 9pm –midnight until Monday January 7.
