Geelong’s rising stars shine

GEELONG’S next wave of star athletes has been celebrated at the 13th annual Barwon Sports Academy Bis Sport Breakfast.

More than 260 people gathered last week in the Captains Room at GMHBA Stadium to honour Geelong’s emerging sporting talent and the power of community in supporting young people to pursue their dreams.

 

The breakfast featured exclusive interviews with Geelong Cats footballer Shannon Neale, Geelong Venom basketballer Taylor Mole, Victorian Institute of Sport athlete Charli Hoey and professional golfer Ben Eccles.

The four athletes shared their personal journeys, challenges and aspirations, offering an insight into the dedication required to reach elite levels in sport.

 

The event also featured moving reflections from past Bis Sport grant recipients who spoke about how the support they have received has helped them follow their sporting dreams.

BSA chief executive officer Cameron Loftus said the academy was proud to be putting effort into ensuring aspiring athletes could thrive.

 

“This breakfast is more than just a fundraiser – it’s a celebration of Geelong’s sporting future.

“Every dollar raised helps unlock potential and supports the next generation of champions. The loyal supporters of this event continue to step up each year.”

 

This year alone, the Barwon Sports Academy granted more than $16,000 to 68 athletes in the region.

Since its inception in 2011, more than $165,000 has been allocated to help local athletes thrive.
