Gerard Griffin appointed as new CEO of stadium trust

THE Kardinia Park Stadium Trust has found its new chief executive officer, with Gerard Griffin appointed to the job last week.

Mr Griffin, who replaces the outgoing Michael Brown and will officially begin in May, has more than 25 years’ experience in elite sporting facilities and membership clubs, most recently at the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC).

In his previous role as the MCC’s general manager of venue and events services, he was responsible for all facets of event operations, catering and hospitality, security and terrorism management, sports precinct management and transportation, in addition the development of the MCG Precinct Master Plan.

“We believe Mr Griffin is an outstanding choice for the role as he brings a wealth of industry knowledge, experience and leadership in stadia and business management,” Trust chair Michael Malouf said.

“With the stage 5 redevelopment of the stadium just around the corner and the establishment of the Kardinia Park Master Plan, Mr Griffin’s success in overseeing major capital projects will be an invaluable asset to the Trust and the stadium.

“Over the past two years, the Trust has cemented itself as an integral part of the Geelong community, bringing events to Geelong and establishing exciting initiatives that bring new audiences of all ages to the stadium.

“We look forward to working with Mr Griffin to continue this momentum and further enhance Kardinia Park’s standing as Australia’s best regional stadium.”

Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Martin Pakula approved the trust’s decision and welcomed the appointment.

“Gerard has an outstanding background in sports management and infrastructure,” he said.

“Having overseen several significant projects at the MCG, he is perfectly positioned to take Kardinia Park to the next level.”
