JAN Juc Surf Life Saving Club is gearing up to host two of its biggest fundraising events next month – the Bells Bash Cliff Run and the Danger Swim Series.

Jan Juc SLSC fundraising and sponsorship director Brad Papworth said the popular Danger Swim Series had been included as part of next year’s inaugural Victorian Open Water Championship Series (VOWCS), the only club from the Surf Coast and Bellarine to score a spot in the lineup.

He also said funds raised from both events would go towards fitting the clubhouse’s hefty redevelopment bill, which still needed about $300,000.

“These are long-running events that are major fundraisers for the club, both from a community point of view as well as our own community.

“We’re the only club outside of the bay to have the championship series, and we’re really trying to raise as much as we can to finish the club off and these are events are crucial to getting the funds.

“The fundraising has been great, but we’re still in need, especially for some of those finishing off elements to get the club where we need it to go.”

Mr Papworth said the club was hoping to raise a total of $50,000 from both events and set a new fundraising record.

The Bells Beach Cliff Run (1.5km, 4km or 8km) is being held on January 3 while the Danger Swim Series (500m, 1km, 2.5km or 5km) will take place on January 4.
