Ghazeepore Road footpaths to be linked

March 21, 2018 BY

THE City of Greater Geelong has authorised its intention to declare a Special Charge Scheme to partially fund a missing link in a key pedestrian area of Waurn Ponds.

A section of kerb and channel and footpath on the east side of Ghazeepore Road has not yet been completed as the area has been developing since 2002.

The proposed new footpath, kerb and channel and road widening will improve access, amenity and safety of this road.

While investigating this project, a decision was made to include an indented bus bay to the south of the road.

The width of the road does not allow for proper two way traffic, so an indented bus bay will improve safety for motorists passing buses.

One property next to the proposed works will receive special benefit through improved access and amenity.

According to the report presented to councillors at the Community Focus Committee meeting, the affected property owner will have to pay a levy of more than $20,000 but the property owner “is aware of and is in favour of the impending charge”.

The total project will cost $154,752, and the next steps will be to advertise the scheme and receive submissions from property owners.

“This important connectivity project will provide proper pedestrian access and safer access for motorists and buses in what is a very busy area of Waurn Ponds,” City of Greater Geelong mayor Bruce Harwood said.
