Golf clubs urged to do it for Jarrod

May 29, 2019 BY

The #DoingItForJarrod fundraiser in August is in memory of golfer Jarrod Lyle, who died on August 8, 2018.

THE Australian golf community and Challenge are asking golf clubs around Australia to dedicate a member’s day in August to the memory of Jarrod Lyle to help raise funds for Challenge, who support kids living with cancer.

The Sands Torquay member (who was diagnosed three times with cancer during his life) was an ambassador for Challenge, and “Jarrod’s Gift” is the legacy created in his honour.

All monies raised through #DoingItForJarrod will go towards the Australian PGA Tour golfer’s goal of helping Challenge provide practical support throughout a child’s cancer journey.

In support of Lyle’s legacy, Challenge asks all golf clubs around the country to get involved this August, the month of his birthday and passing, by dedicating a competition day in his memory to raise funds for this important cause.

Challenge supports children and their families living with cancer and lightens the cancer journey for the whole family by providing practical support and fun experiences 365 days of the year.

“To be able to continue helping other children and families through a cancer diagnosis on behalf of Jarrod is something that’s really important to me,” said Briony Lyle, Jarrod’s wife.

“With the help of golf clubs around Australia, we’ll hopefully be able to raise important funds in support of Jarrod’s legacy.”

All clubs that participate will be entered in the draw to win an invitation to play alongside golf’s best in the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia and European Tour co-sanctioned Australian PGA Championship pro-am, to be held on December 18 at RACV Royal Pines Resort.

Golf Australia chief executive officer Stephen Pitt said even the smallest of events could have a big impact.

“One of Jarrod’s great abilities was to be able to hear and help people and golf clubs that didn’t have a big voice.

“He did things, no matter the size or effort required, when he could. This is our way to follow suit, big or small, to ensure his legacy will continue.”
