GORCC takes note of Point Grey plan feedback

THE Great Ocean Road Coast Committee (GORCC) says it is taking careful note of the feedback received so far to the plans for the redevelopment of Lorne’s Point Grey Precinct.

Major themes to emerge include the need for robust construction materials, recognition of the site’s heritage, enhancement of open space and sensitivity to the surrounding environment.

GORCC says it has analysed and incorporated the feedback into the design process, with project planning approvals to start in November.

Committee chair Ken Northwood said the feedback built on years of consultation at Point Grey through the master planning process, and more recent contributions by a project steering group.

“The response from the community has been fantastic with some clear themes emerging from the consultation, which we will incorporate into the design, ahead of seeking planning approvals for this critical project for Lorne and the Surf Coast.”

He said advocacy for funding the project continued across all levels of government.

“We will continue to work closely with the community to ensure we’re delivering the best possible result for the Surf Coast.”

More than 300 individuals and groups provided feedback on the Point Grey redevelopment design.

Community consultation focused on specific elements of the design and was undertaken through a series of open houses, one-on-one meetings with community and school groups, on site signage, public notices, letter drops, visitor information centre support, community discussion and significant digital and media promotion.

“This has been one heck of a journey over the past decade and we have never been closer, nor partnered with a stronger GORCC team, to deliver an outcome that all of Lorne can be proud of,” Committee for Lorne chair Ian Stewart said.
