Grant helps trail run forge new path

A RECENT grant from the Surf Coast Shire Council will help ensure Rapid Ascent can put its best foot forward with their Trail Running Series Anglesea event.

A first-time recipient of the grant, the Anglesea run is the third of five races in the series.

The council dedicated $6,500 towards the run as part of their latest round of their Events Grants Program.

The run was previously held in conjunction with the Surf Coast Century.

Rapid Ascent event and marketing manager Adele Worner said that having it run independently would improve regional tourism.

“Separating the event away from the Surf Coast Century is expected to deliver repeat visitation in what is generally perceived as low season within the Surf Coast Shire. This in turn will continue to increase the economic impact to the region.

“Many competitors and their family and friends are also expected to attend both event weekends instead of just the one in 2020.”

Last year’s Trail Running Series saw 90 per cent of entrants come from Melbourne and regional Victoria.

The grant will contribute to both the marketing and running of the event.

All the courses in the Anglesea leg seek to take in the best of the natural environment, with each race beginning on Anglesea Main Beach.

The Trail Running Series is spread from June to October, with the Anglesea run taking place on August 9.
