DISABLED Surfers Association Ocean Grove (DSAOG) celebrated the 10th anniversary of its Let’s Go Surfing day at the weekend.

A forecast of extreme heat on Sunday caused a little panic among the DSAOG committee, but Mother Nature was kinder than promised and it was a blissful morning of surfing and weather.

“Ten years on and wow, what a day to kick off our 10th anniversary season,” the DSAOG committee said.

“The setup has grown, the volume of gear has grown and the sausage order has grown but at heart what we do has not – gather as many awesome and generous hearted volunteers as we can and take courageous and inspiring people of all ages and abilities surfing in a fun and safe environment… simple, really.”

The DSAOG committee said bumper numbers of surfers (102) and volunteers (244) alike lived the simple DSA mantra of “putting smiles on dials”.

“From the bottom of our hearts, a massive 10th anniversary thank you to everyone involved in making their event happen.

“Of course DSA surf days are all about our champion surfers, but safe to say the reward is there for all to savour, so take a moment to know that whether you surfed or volunteered, you made a difference and what can be more rewarding than that.

“So until March 3 (the next event), stay safe, stay awesome… and tell your friends!”
