Great Ocean Road to feature in Great Vic Bike Ride
THE Great Ocean Road will feature in Victoria’s biggest bike ride this year along with volcanic craters, Otway rainforests, and townships in the Golden Plains.
The Bicycle Network announced this year’s route for the Great Vic Bike Ride, which is returning after three years of cancellations.
“This will be an iconic Great Vic with riders enjoying the best parts of Western Victoria, charming host towns and incredible scenery,” Bicycle Network’s general manager of events Caitlin Borchers said.
Riders taking part in the Great Victorian Bike Ride from November 26 to December 4 will experience the Great Ocean Road between Apollo Bay and Anglesea with no traffic other than bikes.
Riders will make their way to the Great Ocean Road on November 29 and stay two nights in Apollo Bay before heading to Anglesea where they will spend an additional night before heading to Inverleigh.
“The feature day on the 2022 Great Vic is from Apollo Bay to Anglesea when riders will enjoy the rare opportunity to ride without traffic on the Great Ocean Road,” Ms Borchers said.
“The Great Ocean Road is one of the premier bike riding experiences in the world,” she added.
For the first time ever, the Great Victorian Bike Ride will stop overnight in the Golden Plains town of Inverleigh before finishing in the town of Buninyong.
“After three years it will be terrific to hold another Great Vic Bike Ride at the end of 2022,” Ms Borchers said.
“The Great Vic is an incredibly social week and the perfect holiday for people who have missed being a part of an interacting and engaging community, which we’ve all missed over the last two years.”
