Grovedale scouts enjoy success
THE Geelong Scout Region held its Annual Reports and Presentation night on October 27, with the 1st Grovedale Scout Group receiving three Region awards.
The first award was the Property Award, recognising groups making a special effort in their property to promote Scouting as an organisation that cares about its appearance in the local community.
The second was the Training Award, given to groups to encourage planned training of all leaders to meet the present and future needs of the group.
Grovedale also won the Excellence Award, given to a scout group that demonstrates achievement of positive and continuing excellence.
Grovedale Group leader Rob Bailey said he was very pleased to receive the awards.
“It demonstrates the value of having a functional dedicated team of volunteers in leadership and support roles, who work together for a common purpose,” Rob said.
“I was quite impressed that we came away with three awards. We’ve had low attendance rates lately but we’re on our way up.
“We have a great team of leaders and very enthusiastic youth members engaged in the scouting program and all it has to offer.
“The last few years has seen an upsurge in the number of Cub Scouts achieving their Grey Wolf Award and Scouts achieving their Australian Scout Medallion.
“These are the highest awards that may be attained in each section.”
