Have your say on the future of Kennett River

THE Great Ocean Road Coast & Parks Authority is inviting those interested in helping shape the future of Kennett River to join a soon-to-be established community reference group.

Comprised of up to eight community representatives, the reference group (CRG) will assist in the development of a draft plan for the precinct, which will also inform a masterplan for the Kennett River Family Caravan Park.

Works slated for the small township, located between Lorne and Apollo Bay, aim to bolster its tourism infrastructure to accommodate significant increases in traffic as Kennett River forges a reputation as a wildlife hotspot along the Great Ocean Road.

The infrastructure improvements will be delivered as part of the $500 million Geelong City Deal and include a new public toilet, upgraded wastewater treatment plant, car park and road improvement works.

The establishment of a CRG follows several community engagement initiatives, held between late-2023 and early-2024.

The feedback provided through this period will inform the project as it enters its next stage.

“We are thrilled to see such strong community involvement in shaping the future of Kennett River,” Cath Olive, the Authority’s director of infrastructure and planning, said.

“The wealth of knowledge, ideas and history shared during the two-month engagement period has been incredibly valuable.

“We’ve really enjoyed collaborating locally and are excited to maintain this momentum as we work together to bring this project to life.”

Expressions of interest for the Kennett River CRG will close on Wednesday, May 1.
