THE world’s richest 1600-metre horse race will make its debut at Flemington racecourse on March 16, and a Torquay local is hoping to garner enough public votes so his horse is in the final field.

Australian voters will select 10 out of the 14 horses for the All-Star Mile before the end of the voting period on February 18.

Once voting is finalised, Racing Victoria will choose the remaining four horses using a wildcard pool.

Torquay’s Simon McCarty is encouraging race enthusiasts to back four-year-old chestnut gelding Mr Money Bags after having bought shares in the winning horse with his father in 2016.

“Dad was going through some health issues and sadly passed away before he got to see the horse run,” he said.

“Mr Money Bags has been in 18 races, winning five in town and three at Flemington.

“It would be great to get some support and some votes from people in the Torquay community.”

Voters who are randomly selected to be an owner ambassador and back the All-Star Mile winning horse could win $250,000.
