Henderson announces rail crossing upgrades
CORANGAMITE federal member Sarah Henderson announced upgrades to 12 level crossings on the Warrnambool rail line as part of the Turnbull Government’s $114 million Warrnambool Line Upgrade project last week.
The upgrades for Corangamite include signalling upgrades between Waurn Ponds and Warrnambool. The level crossings being upgraded in the Corangamite electorate are:
- Hunts Road, Moriac
- Waltons Rd
- Buckley South Rd
- Armytage Rd
- Aireys Reserve Rd
Ms Henderson said the primary control mechanism used at each of these level crossings varies between flashing lights and stop signs.
She said the upgrade of crossings with stop signs will involve an upgrade to fully active protection (half boom flashing lights) and axle counters if not provided.
The upgrade of the remaining crossings will involve the retro-fitting of activation technology only.
“After running a concerted campaign, the Turnbull Government has delivered $254 million in vital funding for rail upgrades for the Geelong and Corangamite region to provide fast, comfortable and reliable train services that the region deserves.
“This includes $150 million to duplicate the rail track and upgrade platforms between Waurn Ponds and South Geelong train stations.
“Our community needs a first class rail service including a fast train and express services to Melbourne.”
