Hike finds a new home in 2018

December 5, 2017 BY

THE Hundred Hole Hike (HHH) is moving to a new home next year, with the next event to be held at Peppers the Sands Resort in Torquay.

The golfing trek is coming into its sixth year having raised more than $250,000 in funding for ABI Clubhouse programs held at the Eastern Hub Community Centre.

Hikers put their mental and physical toughness on the line to complete the herculean task, which was previously held at the Thirteenth Beach Golf Links in Barwon Heads.

Mike McKinstry, genU chief executive officer, said the HHH had become a major event for his organisation, and it had entered a new era with the support of Peppers The Sands Resort.

“I am in awe of the Hikers who undertake this challenge once, let alone year after year, as so many have done.

“Once they start, there is no stopping until all 100 holes are played and even then, some keep going. We are excited to be working with The Sands and look forward to welcoming many new Hikers at our new home in 2018.”

Originating in the US, the Hundred Hole Hike is the brainchild of Jim Colton who started the concept to assist a friend who now lives with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) following a skiing accident.

The concept has travelled around the world and has, so far, supported 158 charities.

Brought to Australia by Brett Morrissy to raise funds to support a friend with an ABI, the genU Hundred Hole Hike is the only official Hundred Hole Hike event in the Southern Hemisphere.

“The Sands is excited about supporting the genU Hundred Hole Hike in 2018,” Peppers The Sands chief executive officer Teddy Lan said.

“The golfing community is a very generous one, and we are really pleased to get behind this event and very happy that we are the new home of the genU Hundred Hole Hike.”

Registrations for the HHH are now open to all golfers ready to take on the challenge.
